fragility – challenge to challenge

As a blogger, of course, I follow other blogs, and as everyone does, I have my long time favourites, very amazing and talented people who I have long since admired. One such person is the very lovely Sadystika Sabretooth of Sady Style Blog.  Recently on her blog she sent out a challenge to others, to give her two random items and she would connect them together by writing about them, and if people wished, they could be challenged back, and in return Sady would give two items back, to be compared or connected someway in a piece of writing.  Well, I took part in this challenge as I thought it was a great idea.  My two items were an ice cube and a butterfly, this is my challenge to challenge post.

She was feeling pretty low. Everything she seemed to touch faded away and disappeared in front of her.  It felt like she had nothing solid to hold on to.  Like the butterfly that had landed, just for a brief second, on her palm just a few weeks ago, the outstanding beauty and grace was short lived, because, when she tried to hold onto that one piece of pure beauty, it flew away, fluttered off into the sky, never to be seen again.  Like the Ice cube she fetched from the tray just yesterday to place in her drink, she noticed as she lifted out of its little square compartment how it shone with the light, like a crystal or diamond, and as she held it up to the light, sadly she watched it melt away, feeling the cold water running down her arm like the tears from her eyes.  The little bird that now sits on her finger, will, too soon be gone, she will fly away to her nest and this one single moment of pure beauty will be lost forever.

Beauty is but a single moment in time, we cannot capture it and keep it, for it is far too fragile.  There is beauty in everything if you look for it, once you spot it, enjoy the moment, for it will be gone in the blink of an eye, but, there will always be another, equally as beautiful and fragile, and this is what makes life worth living.
