I don’t remember much of the early 90’s, and to be honest, the only thing I could smell during those years were shitty nappies and baby sick. Those years were lost on me, I was busy, having and bringing up my two babies. I was way too busy to be listening to music, and, on the rare occasion I did grab a minute to myself and listen, I had so much going on in my head I never really took any of it in.
Even though the music of the time escaped me, the only decade since the 60’s to do so, one song in particular did stick. I have no idea why, named after a girls deodorant on sale in the US, and with totally meaningless lyrics, Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ is still a favourite of mine, best heard LOUD driving at 70 mph down the motorway!
