how now, brown cow?

We have some weird and wonderful sayings in little old England.  As I was sitting here taking this picture it reminded me of one my Nan used to say.  How now, brown cow?  She used it as a greeting, another way of saying Hello, how are you?  It always made me smile and laugh when I was a child, I thought it was a very strange thing to say.  My Nan has been gone a long time now, but I still miss her.  I wonder what she would make of what is going on in the world right now.  She’d probably have some cute saying to sum it all up!
