Well here we go. Another week on furlough leave. Another two weeks to go and then hopefully I can start work again. Of course, I’ll be working from home for the foreseeable future once I do go back. I am actually missing my job, so restarting can’t come soon enough for me.
I had a very surreal experience yesterday. I had to see my doctor. I had a telephone appointment initially, but he decided he needed to see me, so he told me to attend the surgery. He told me I must wear a face mask. So, face mask on, I arrived at the surgery to find the doors locked. I had to ring the bell, and the receptionist came to let me in. She was also wearing a mask, and gloves. I had to use the gel on my hands and was then shown into what they called a ‘Cold Room’, and wait for the doctor. The room was stark, there was a chair, a desk and a couch. that was it. I sat in the chair and waited. The doctor and a Nurse entered the room, I was not expecting their appearance though. Both were dressed in full PPE. Full length gowns, face masks, face shields, and gloves. They looked like spacemen! I was very anxious. The doctor did apologise and said while he knew it was unnerving to see them dressed like that, it was necessary, which of course I understood. Was still very weird though.
After my examination I was walked to the door, gelled my hands again and left. I returned home, and immediately showered and washed my hair, put on clean clothes and put everything I had been wearing into the washing machine.
I know it’s a sign of the times, but it left me wondering if this is going to be the new normal? Will we really ever get used to this?
