I had some very nice and unexpected help today, for which I am very grateful. All through the lockdown I have been trying to do a bit or work in my small garden, both to keep me busy and to get fresh air, while trying to do something productive too. There’s one job I’ve been dreading tackling, ‘cos it’s a biggie. I have a big Ivy plant climbing over my wall. Honestly, I think it’s plotting world domination, it’s gone berserk! So it needs cutting back. Well no, what it really needs is getting rid of completely but I’m not able physically to do that myself.
Anyway, today, armed with a single, small pair of secateurs, I headed out to try and tackle at least the worst of it, the bits that have grown over my gate and I have to dodge every time I go out. So I began cutting away, and actually I found it quite therapeutic, even though it WAS hard work. I had to keep stopping for a drink, and I did become breathless a couple of times so had to take my inhaler. It was during one of my breaks that my neighbour appeared, and asked if I needed a hand. I looked at him gratefully and said that I would love his help. Next thing he and his son appeared with electric hedge trimmers and in about an hour the Ivy was no more! I did of course keep them hydrated with cups of tea and jugs of iced water! What bloody nice chaps they are. Now, my car really needs a wash…..
